Associate Speciality Director (Part Time, Fixed Term)
The Primary Care Unit of the Department of Public Health and Primary Care within the School of Clinical Medicine is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified doctor to support the Palliative Care teaching of medical students. We are looking for an enthusiastic medical colleague to join the Palliative Care teaching team of Dr Anna Spathis (Associate Professor of Palliative Care and Speciality Director for Palliative Care teaching), Professor Stephen Barclay (Professor of Palliative Care), Dr Simon Etkind (Assistant Professor of Palliative Care), Dr Annabel Price (Associate Speciality Director), Dr Robert Brodrick (Associate Speciality Director) and Alice Cuttriss (Palliative Care Teaching Administrator).
You will have current experience of clinical Palliative Care delivery. We are seeking a colleague with a particular interest in, and experience of, Palliative and End of Life Care in the community setting. You will have experience of medical student teaching and an enthusiasm for participating in the delivery and development of the Cambridge Palliative Care course.
Overview of Role
The post holder will work with the teaching team to:
- Contribute to delivery of the Palliative Care teaching of students on the Cambridge Standard Clinical Course and the Cambridge Graduate Course in Medicine.
- Contribute to the planning, delivery and quality assurance of the Palliative Care course, with a particular focus on community and Primary Care provision.
- Contribute to the delivery and quality assurance of the new Care of Dying Patients simulation course, starting autumn 2025.
- Participate in student assessment, including coursework and Final MB examinations.
- Meet continuing personal development needs in the Palliative Care and medical education fields.
- Contribute to educational, and other, research opportunities if they arise.
One post of two Sessions/Programmed Activities per week.
The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
The role is being offered as a secondment or on a fixed term basis dependent on individual circumstances. This will be discussed and confirmed following interview and appointment.
You will require GMC registration, Licence to Practice and Medical Defence Cover for the duration of your appointment. This appointment requires an Honorary Clinical Contract.
Location: Department of Public Health and Primary Care, East Forvie Building, University Forvie Site, Robinson Way, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, Cambridge, CB2 0SR (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).
