Research Assistant (Creixell Group) (Fixed Term)

Join us at the world-leading CRUK Cambridge Institute! We are a unique department of the University of Cambridge, core-funded by Cancer Research UK's charitable activities.

The Creixell Laboratory is seeking to hire an enthusiastic and highly motivated Research Assistant, funded through the Brain Tumour Charity, to join a team of scientists studying studying protein substrate specificity.

Our lab integrates machine learning and high-throughput biochemistry to study how proteins selectively recognise their substrates, how this process is perturbed in cancer and how it can be hijacked to find highly-selective and mutant-specific drugs to overcome drug resistance specifically in brain cancer. We are developing new tools to address cutting-edge questions in these fields.

This role will be part of a team that integrates molecular biology, low- and high-throughput protein biochemistry along with computational approaches to understand protein substrate specificity at a molecular level. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and competent individual with excellent laboratory skills in molecular biology and protein biochemistry. A background in cellular signalling, cancer biology and/or computational biology specifically targeting kinases would be advantageous.

The successful candidate should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team.

Applicants should be educated to Master's Degree (MSc or MPhil or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (Biology, Biochemistry, Natural Sciences). Experience in working in bacterial peptide display methodology is essential for this role.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
