Building Maintenance Technician/Electrician
The Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy seeks a Building Maintenance Technician/Electrician to join its friendly Building Service Team to provide a wide range of planned, preventative and reactive electrical tasks, as well as minor installations and modifications of building services, structure and equipment. The role holder will be the sole qualified electrician on the team.
The post holder will work in all areas of the Department, including plant rooms, laboratories, controlled environments and support areas. They will be expected to organise their work and other available resources in a way that minimises disruption to research and teaching activities.
Working with the Principal Technician and another Senior Building Services technician, the role holder will also carry out maintenance of the department's building, act as a second deputy to the Principal Technician and will be the third key holder on emergency 24/7 call-out. It will therefore be essential for the successful candidate to be able to work both independently and as part of a team.
An HNC, City & Guilds or NVQ Electrical will be required, and also Certification to IEE Wiring Regulations 18th Edition. The role holder will be expected to have previous experience in trade and/or industrial environments, be familiar with both single and three-phase electrical-based systems, and be able to use all electrical meters and equipment.
