Research Associate (Aliee Group) (Fixed Term)
Join us at the world-leading CRUK Cambridge Institute. We're a unique department of the University of Cambridge, core funded by Cancer Research UK's charitable activities, and we're eagerly searching for a postdoctoral Research Associate to join our Aliee Group.
Our group develops AI-driven models to understand and interrogate biological complexity, with a focus on hypothesis generation, cellular modelling, and gene regulation. By integrating existing biological data and adapting to new experimental inputs, we build predictive and generalizable models that support the design of novel experiments, uncover the principles that govern cell behaviour, and infer context-aware gene regulatory networks. Ultimately, we aim to reveal foundational insights into how living systems function, adapt, and vary - advancing both basic science and personalized approaches to health and disease.
We offer positions in both foundational and applied research. Opportunities on the foundational side include developing advanced AI models - such as artificial general intelligence (AGI), agent-based systems, causal inference frameworks, and generative models - tailored to address complex biological problems. These efforts involve integrating prior knowledge from text or other modalities with biological data to merge decades of domain expertise (e.g., in cancer diagnosis) with new experimental findings to generate hypotheses and drive discovery. On the applied side, we welcome researchers interested in applying novel and existing computational tools to biological datasets, with a particular focus on patient stratification and uncovering individual differences that can inform personalized treatments.
We require a collaborative Research Associate to join the team to:
If you are our successful candidate, you will be supported by our longstanding and highly experienced operational teams, who will be invested in your success, and your continued professional development.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will initially be appointed as a Research Assistant (Grade 5, Point 38, £34,132) moving to Research Associate (Grade 7) upon confirmation of their PhD award.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a security check.
