Research Assistant (Part Time, Fixed Term)


A position exists for a part time Research Assistant in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics to work on the theory of quantum tensor networks, working 0.2 FTE (one day per week). The position is funded by the UKRI / Advanced ERC grant "It's the Symmetry, Stupid! Gearing Up Tensor Networks for the Topological Quantum Revolution". You will be part of the research group of Prof. Frank Verstraete.

Duties include undertaking your own program of research and assisting with ongoing research programmes; writing up results for publication; and presenting your work to colleagues at conferences or seminars, both internally and externally. You may also be asked to assist in organizing various seminars and study groups. During the period of funding for this role, you will be eligible to complete your PhD studies.

The successful candidate will have a Master's degree in mathematics in physics or mathematics and experience in the field of quantum tensor networks.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
