Research Grants and Finance Administrator

The Department of Earth Sciences is seeking to recruit a Research Grants and Finance Administrator to support all aspects of research grant administration (pre-award and post-award) in the Department.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly built Research administration team. Reporting to the Research Grants Coordinator, the post holder will support the Principal Investigators (PIs) holding grants, researchers and academics in the Department who are applying for funding. The post holder will also be involved in the financial aspects of the grants and process financial transactions using the University's financial system, with support from the Finance team in the Department.

The post involves contact with a wide variety of people, both internally within the Department and University, as well as externally, requiring regular communication and providing opportunities for collaborative work. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of internal and external parties are therefore essential, alongside the ability to work as an effective team member. The successful candidate will possess exceptional organisational and time management skills and be able to prioritise a diverse and changing workload. The ability to pay attention to detail and work to a high level of accuracy is also essential in this role.

The role holder will work within a small team consisting of a Research Grants Administrator and the Research Grants Coordinator. Due to the nature of the role, the postholder will be expected to work flexibly and collaboratively to prioritise tasks and develop and share best practices.

The successful candidate will be educated to HND, HNC, level 4/5 vocational qualification or have equivalent level of practical experience, and be highly competent in Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Access and Outlook). Knowledge of research grants or accounts-based experience is essential and an interest in the research activities of the departments would be advantageous.
