Research Assistant/Associate in Soft Electronics (Fixed Term)


A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Soft electronics.

The post holder will be located in West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK. The role holder will be required to have practical experience in high-density microelectrode pattern on soft substrates with good understanding of advanced microfabrication processes, electrode substrate interaction and origins of mechanical failure under pressure. They should have expertise in microelectrode arrays and multilevel high-density routing for large-area sensor systems. Experience in multicomponent piezoelectric composites and material architecture to achieve improved electromechanical coupling and spatial resolution would be important. In addition, they should have experience in sensor array readout circuits and electronics integration. It is desirable that the candidates have sound knowledge in statistical analysis of device output and have experience with failure analysis. The role holder will work with Prof Tawfique Hasan at the NanoEngineering Group at the Cambridge Graphene Centre, and will closely collaborate with SRA, PDRA, and technician team members.

Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, Physics or relevant technical discipline. To perform the role, the applicants will additionally need to have excellent presentation, technical writing, scientific illustration and project management skills. The applicant will be expected to participate into dissemination, including public and social media engagements. They must be able to work independently or in teams within and outside the university, with excellent organization, communication and time-management skills. In particular, their ability to independently think and formulate solutions to experimental problems will be an important selection criteria. They will also be expected to work closely with other undergraduate and graduate students in the research group.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £32,546 - £35,116 Research Associate: £37,174 - £45,413

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 30 months or until 29 February 2028, whichever comes soonest, in the first instance.
