Research Associate in Environmental Observations for Aircraft (Fixed Term)


A position exists, for a Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on environmental observations for aircraft.

The post holder will be located in Whittle Laboratory, West Cambridge Site, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The Research Associate will contribute to the advancement of methods for environmental data collection and analysis related to aircraft operations. The key responsibilities and duties are to develop, validate, and apply a portable measurement approach for capturing and interpreting environmental parameters associated with aircraft in both controlled (lab) and real-world settings. Throughout the project, the Research Associate will be expected to design and execute field measurements, process and analyse environmental data, and contribute to the development of robust methodologies for environmental observation.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD in Aerospace Engineering (or similar), extensive experience with experimental design and data analysis, evidence of collaboration and communication outside own discipline and experience with industry/external interactions.

Salary Ranges: Research Associate: £37,174 - £45,413

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 10 months or until 21/09/2026, whichever comes the soonest, in the first instance.
