Research Assistant (SCOR) (Fixed Term) Internal Applicants Only

Internal Candidates Only

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and ambitious Research Assistant to make an important contribution to research in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society-Blood Cancer UK Strategic Center of Research (SCOR) at the Department of Haematology. The SCOR is led by Professor George Vassiliou and is conducting research to develop a clinical programme for myeloid cancer prevention.

The SCOR consists of three Cores and four Projects covering basic, translational and clinical research. As a researcher in the SCOR, you will work as part of a large team of laboratory and computational researchers and research nurses. Your own research focus will be in its clinical work, working with patients through its closely allied Clonal Haematopoiesis Clinic at Cambridge University Hospitals and the Blood Cancers Patient and Public Involvement Group.

The breadth and scale of research in the SCOR makes this a highly demanding role requiring a large and specific range of skills and experience. You will be educated to at least Master's level and have a background in clinical research or clinical trials. You will have presented your research and be an author on at least one peer reviewed published paper. You will have successful experience working with patients in research, including interviewing, constructing questionnaires and recruiting participants. Evidence of initiative in supporting clinical research and involving/engaging patients and the public in the planning and conduct of cancer-related research, would be highly valued. A background in social anthropology or related fields and experience relevant to the safe conduct of research would also be advantageous. You will be highly organised and have extensive administrative skills. Experience of coordinating or administering a large multi-disciplinary collaborative University-based research programme is essential. Our research will require you to deal with a wide range of people and have excellent written and spoken communication skills. Experience of working in a large research team and communicating with scientists, clinicians, nursing staff, patients, family members, administrators, funders and other outside bodies is required.
