Research Assistant/Research Associate* (Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for a talented Cancer Epidemiologist to join the Centre for Genetic Epidemiology, Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge.
The postholder will contribute to ongoing cancer risk modelling projects within the Centre for Cancer Genetic Epidemiology (CCGE), based in the Department of Public Health and Primary Care. They should have a strong understanding of the structure and use of routinely collected cancer data.
In this role, the postholder will act as a liaison between the National Disease Registration Service and the Departments of Public Health and Primary Care and Medical Genetics. They will support and conduct analyses of complex datasets, involving both the development of novel analytical methods and the application of existing techniques to linked data.
The overarching goal will be the integration of routinely collected data (e.g. molecular genomic data with clinical data from electronic health records) to address specific research questions aligned with the objectives of the CCGE. These include cancer risk estimation and the investigation of the genetic and clinical epidemiology for genetically susceptible individuals.
This role is ideally suited to candidates with strong quantitative and analytical skills and a PhD (or near completion) in cancer epidemiology or a related field. Applicants should have experience in applying or developing analytical methods for the analysis of linked data from electronic health records and genomic or molecular sources. Strong statistical skills (e.g. proficiency in R or Stata), along with excellent writing, presentation, and communication abilities, are essential.
Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience), including those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD. Where a PhD has yet to be, awarded appointment will initially be made at research assistant and amended to research associate when the PhD is awarded (PhD needs to be awarded within 6 months of the start date)
Salary:
Grade 5: £32,546 - £35,116
Grade 7*: £35,116 - £45,413
The funds for these posts are available until 6 months from commencement in post.
This is a full-time position.
