Assistant Teaching Professor and Course Director, MPhil in Translational Medical Research (Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for a new Assistant Teaching Professor post be held at the University of Cambridge Department of Medicine, to be appointed by September 2025. The primary responsibility of this role will be to serve as Course Director for a new MPhil course, the MPhil in Translational Medical Research.
The postholder will play a leading role in designing, delivering, and managing the academic and research components of the MPhil in Translational Medical Research. In this capacity and through complementary activities, the postholder will champion and develop the teaching and research profiles of the Department of Medicine.
The MPhil in Translational Medical Research aims to train the next generation of scientists and practitioners in translational medicine. The course will provide an exceptional hands-on experience in state-of-the-art research complemented by a strong foundation of lectures, practical courses, literature reviews and transferable skills workshops delivered by internationally recognized experts. The long-term aim is to generate research outputs of the highest quality with positive impacts on clinical practice and patient wellbeing.
Applicants must have a PhD in biomedical research and postdoctoral research experience in one or more of the course themes: translational immunology, pandemic preparedness, cardiovascular and respiratory research, and acute and emergency care.
Applicants should have a record of innovation or advanced scholarly activity; a high-level understanding of research design and discovery with therapeutic applications; and experience in teaching or academic supervision.
Experience in working across the clinical-research NHS interface and public or patient engagement are desirable.
Appointment will be on a fixed 5- year term in the first instance, with a 2-year probationary period.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
