Teaching Associate in Conservation Leadership [Temporary Cover]

The Department of Geography wishes to appoint a three-year fixed-term Teaching Associate in Conservation Leadership, starting from 1 September 2025. The position is fixed-term, in order to provide cover for a colleague undertaking additional leadership responsibilities.

The MPhil in Conservation Leadership is an 11-month Masters programme, which aims to equip students with the applied leadership and management skills needed to create positive change in conservation (see www.cl.geog.cam.ac.uk).

We are seeking a specialist in conservation leadership, broadly defined, who will be expected to teach multiple classes in the MPhil in Conservation Leadership, coordinate the group consultancy and individual professional placement projects undertaken by the MPhil students, and supervise professional placement projects during the summer months. They will play a key role in the admissions and marking processes for the MPhil degree.

In addition, they will contribute to residential and one day field courses, attend additional student events such as evening Conservation Leadership Lectures and generally support the delivery of a complex and multifaceted programme. The successful candidate may also be asked to contribute to undergraduate dissertation supervision, lecturing and examining.

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in geography, or a cognate subject. They will possess evidence of significant relevant teaching experience in geography or related fields, and demonstrate close familiarity with the relevant fields of academic research. It is highly important that the candidate also has significant applied experience in the conservation field, including experience of leadership, enabling them to teach a group of diverse mid-career professionals on topics related to conservation leadership with credibility and authority.

While this is a teaching-oriented role, the successful applicant would be supported by a mentor and the wider Departmental community in their research aspirations and broader professional development. The Department is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive environment for its Teaching Associates.

Please refer to the Further Particulars attached for details on key responsibilities, person specifications and terms of appointment.
