Clinical Senior Research Associate (Part Time, Fixed Term) [INTERNAL ONLY]

We wish to recruit a Clinical Senior Research Associate with a background in clinical research to join the Cambridge-GSK Translational Immunology Collaboration (CG-TIC), a new interdisciplinary partnership between the University of Cambridge and GSK, bringing together expertise in immunology, AI and clinical development from both partners. The collaboration will focus on two disease areas: chronic kidney disease, estimated to affect 850 million people, roughly 10% of the world's population. The mission of the collaboration is to accelerate research and development into immune-related diseases by applying cutting edge analytical technology and analytical expertise.

We are seeking an outstanding individual to lead the real spatial biology component of CG-TIC. The role will focus on developing and applying novel spatial biology methods, such as spatial transcriptomics and multiplexed imaging, to study renal pathology, including glomerulonephritis, diabetic nephropathy, and renal fibrosis. The successful candidate will combine clinical expertise in renal histopathology with leadership in methodological innovation, driving translational research within Cambridge's world-class biomedical ecosystem. The role requires experience in preparing ethics proposals within the UK regulatory framework to ensure compliance with national standards.

The position is based in the Department of Medicine, working with researchers based in the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease (CITIID) and the Victor Phillip Dahdaleh Heart & Lung Research Institute (HLRI) who are part of the CG-TIC. You will sit within the research group of Prof. Menna Clatworthy (https://www.immunology.cam.ac.uk/Networkdirectory/mrc), Prof. of Translational Immunology.

Applicants should have a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) with specialist qualification in Histopathology (FRCPath or equivalent) and eligibility for inclusion on the specialist registrar. PhD/MD or other higher degree plus clinical registration as a specialist doctor. Clinical expertise in renal histopathology and a research interest in kidney disease is highly desirable. Extensive research experience is expected including the production of relevant outputs. Applicants should be flexible and adaptive with a positive approach to managing substantial projects. Experience of working with industry partners and collaborative working will be extremely valuable.

Informal enquiries regarding this position are strongly encouraged: contact Prof David Thomas (tdct2@cam.ac.uk), Academic Lead, CG-TIC, or Prof. Menna Clatworthy (mrc38@medschl.cam.ac.uk).

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 10 October 2029 in the first instance.
