Senior Research Associate - Genomic Technology Innovation (Fixed Term)
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.
We seek a senior post-doctoral researcher with extensive research experience to work with Professor Sir Shankar Balasubramanian leading and managing projects to translate academic discoveries into workable technologies with real world applications. Research within the group has previously led to the founding of 3 spin-out companies that include Solexa Ltd. and biomodal Ltd. We are building a team to focus on pre-commercial development of technologies discovered by the group and are looking to appoint a chemist/chemical biologist/molecular biologist to lead the team and provide scientific input and day-to-day management of this work. The research will involve nucleic acids chemistry and enzymology, protein-DNA interactions, epigenetics, chromatin structure and transcription. (http://www.balasubramanian.co.uk/)
Applicants should have experience of managing a translational research programme in either an academic or industrial setting and a PhD in a relevant subject. They should show proven impact from authored publications and have experience in the supervision of junior researchers. The successful candidate needs to be able to act as the project lead and to take responsibility for the delivery of the programme objectives as well as drafting grant applications. They will have excellent communication skills, data management, organisational skills and demonstrate a clear enthusiasm for their work. The successful candidate will have a capacity for innovation and creativity and be curiosity-driven together with a proven ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment. The desire to lead a close-knit team, sharing data and ideas and working together on complex experiments, is essential.
