Senior Scientific Associate, Pre-clinical Genome Editing facility (12 months Fixed Term)

In the Pre-Clinical Genome Editing team, our mission is to exploit technology to enable meaningful advances in understanding and treating cancer. We exploit and adapt cutting edge technologies to enable researchers to gain novel biological insight.

As a Senior Scientific Associate, you will join the highly specialised Pre-Clinical Genome Editing team and apply your expertise to the genetic manipulation of complex, patient-relevant model systems. Our team has a wealth of expertise in CRISPR technology, its innovation and its application both in vitro and in vivo. You will complement our capability to both innovate the technology and to edit complex cellular systems. As a technology expert, you will work collaboratively with researchers to bring technological solutions to important biological questions.

Key Responsibilities:

You will complement our Genome Editing capability by:

  • Working collaboratively with research groups and other core facilities to deliver high impact CRISPR-based projects (in vitro and in vivo)
  • Developing novel platform technologies that advance biological insight
  • Drawing upon your substantive expertise in the growth and manipulation of complex cell systems (eg primary cells) as well as your in vivo proficiency
  • Applying your deep mastery of complex molecular techniques, including your expertise in the design and application of functional genomics screens with complex readouts

Minimum Requirements:

  • A PhD or other relevant qualification
  • Demonstrable evidence of driving a research project in an autonomous fashion
  • Expertise in advanced molecular techniques (eg CRISPR, Immunofluorescence microscopy and image analysis, Lenti, cloning)
  • Practical fluency in Bioinformatics approaches (e.g. DepMap, Ensembl, StringDB) is a significant advantage
  • Proactive, adaptable and enthusiastic about learning new concepts and technologies
  • Excellent and effective communication skills are essential to this role.
