Postdoctoral Research Associate (Fixed Term)
The Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages and Linguistics are inviting applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) post on the project 'Multilingual Dynamic Assessment for Language and Content Learning: Addressing Sociolinguistic Diversity in India's primary schools', a project that investigates the role of alternative multilingual assessment tools for underprivileged learners in India.
This project is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the German Research Council (DFG) and is led by Prof. Ianthi M. Tsimpli. The goal, through publications, academic conferences and public impact, is to investigate the linguistic properties of multilingual teacher talk in the classroom and the learners' performance on different assessment tools that measure language and content learning. The PDRA joins the team in the first years of the project.
The expected start date for this role is 1 August 2025. The post is full time and fixed term until 30 November 2026.
Main responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
- Corpus transcription, annotation and analysis of audio recordings from teacher talk in primary school classrooms from different sites in India.
- Statistical analysis of linguistic data
- Theoretical and empirical implications of the datasets for publication purposes
- Close interaction with the research team in Cambridge, India and Frankfurt
The successful candidate will work as part of the project team of Principal Investigator and the Frankfurt-based co-Investigator as well as working the India project team. They will be part of the larger community of researchers in language education research carried out in Cambridge, India and more widely.
