Administrator to PEDAL (Part Time, Fixed Term)

PEDAL (Play in Education, Development And Learning) conducts world-leading research into the role of play in children's lives and mobilises knowledge to help improve children's lives and life chances.

Part of the Psychology, Education and Learning Studies Research Group at our Faculty of Education, The PEDAL Centre comprises around 25 team members, including PhD students, and is funded by a range of governmental and charitable research funding organisations.

We are now looking for an Administrator to PEDAL to join us on a part-time basis, working 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE). This role is for a fixed-term contract for two years.

This is the ideal role for a talented administrator with outstanding written communication skills and a background in a university or research environment to further their career with our world-renowned University.

Your Role

As an Administrator, you'll provide key support at the PEDAL centre, facilitating vital research and helping align the Centre's activities with the Faculty and University research strategy.

Specifically, you'll be involved in all aspects of operational support including financial management, research administration, communications and PR, human resources and governance.

Getting involved in managing the budget and annual reporting, you'll support fundraising activity, report on external grant funding and assist with other financial and management info. You'll support the centre to fulfil its remit for internationally recognised research, aiding in bid preparation and the management of funds and recording research output and activity.

Your role will also involve:

  • Using social media and websites to disseminate findings to relevant communities
  • Overseeing public events such as seminars, lectures and practitioner workshops
  • Acting as the first point of contact for the media
  • Managing Centre staff contracts
  • Supporting with the recruitment of staff for the Centre
  • Ensuring compliance with donation agreements and research contracts
  • Supporting the PEDAL Advisory Board and Management Committee

About You

  • Previous experience of administration in a university or research environment
  • High-level organisational and management skills, with significant experience of administration including some project/office management
  • The ability to negotiate and persuade both formally and informally, in person and in writing
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to write formal documents and communicate effectively with non-academic audiences
  • Experience of using a range of IT tools for management, information sharing and dissemination, including websites and social media
  • A flexible approach to working hours with the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • At a minimum, to be educated to graduate level or equivalent
