Senior Animal Technician (Fixed Term)


We are seeking to recruit a Senior Animal Technician to join our team at the MRC Metabolic Diseases Unit (MDU).

The successful applicant will become a member of the Coll, O'Rahilly and Yeo group and contribute significantly to an MRC-funded programme of work called "Mechanisms in disorders of energy balance and body composition".

Our group combines insights from human genetics with in vivo and functional studies to understand disorders of body weight and body composition relevant to human health.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with excellent experience of in vivo models, particularly their use in understanding whole body metabolism and hormone biology.

The post holder will play a key role in the management of animal colonies and will be involved in the supervision and training of other member of the laboratory, including PhD students.

A current UK Home Office Personal licence (ASPA 1986) and excellent animal husbandry skills are essential.

The post holder will be educated to degree level/level 6 vocational qualification or equivalent in a biological or related field, will be competent in basic molecular biology techniques such as PCR and knowledge of metabolic phenotyping is also highly desirable.

This position is based at the Institute of Metabolic Science (https://www.ims.cam.ac.uk/) at the University of Cambridge, which provides a highly collaborative and stimulating environment.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 March 2028 in the first instance.
