Assistant Departmental Administrator [Temporary Cover]

An excellent opportunity has arisen within the Department of Earth Sciences, inviting applications for the post of Assistant Departmental Administrator, to provide temporary cover.

We are seeking an experienced administrator capable of making a significant contribution across a range of activities within the Department. The post holder will apply their skills in a variety of different situations and environments, with the role holder's primary responsibility being graduate matters (including reporting, progression and acting as Secretary to the Department's Postgraduate Affairs Ctte) and supporting the recruitment of staff and postdocs for the Department. They will be based at the Bullard Labs on Madingley Rise, where they will be responsible for coordinating the support effort on that site and providing leadership of the small support staff team there. They will work closely with the Department Business and Operations Manager, who is primarily based at the Downing Site, and will deputise for that role where necessary.

The successful candidate will be educated to at least degree level (or have equivalent experience). The range of duties involved will require them to be well organised, able to direct and monitor the work of others, be flexible and able to handle new and unusual situations as they arise. Applicants will be required to demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines and to prioritise and organise tasks successfully and should have experience in management and administration in a complex organisation. They will have skills in team leadership, resource management, problem-solving and planning. The role will involve assisting with the production, interpretation and reporting of financial information and other management data in order to advise the Head of Department and other senior academic staff on strategy, planning and policy issues.

The role holder will have excellent communication skills in order to work effectively with staff, students and external stakeholders and to collaborate with colleagues in the University's central administration.

Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term until 12 September 2025 or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.

Earliest start date: 01 July 2024
