AV Support Technician


An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Audio Visual Support Technician within the University of Cambridge Audio Visual (AV) Services, which is a unit within the Workplaces Services department of the University's Estates Division.

The role will primarily be based at our central Cambridge office and workshop. Supported by the Senior AV Technicians, you will provide a user centric AV support to our lecture theatres, classrooms and meeting rooms across a number of University sites. Your daily duties will include AV equipment functional checks, supporting teaching staff with equipment set up for lectures and upkeep of the team workshop and stores equipment.

As an AV Support Technician you will help the AV team to deliver service improvements, install and maintain a wide range of AV equipment, under the supervision of the Senior AV Technicians. You will assist with the delivery of professional events services, such as video production and live streaming, for high profile events and conferences. You will also be willing to complete a City & Guilds certificate in Electrical Equipment Maintenance and Testing, after which you will carry out the teams Portable Appliance Testing.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent customer service skills and technical acumen, who will deliver a first-class user experience for our staff, students, and visitors.

Additional training will be supported for the right applicant, but you will be able to demonstrate the following at interview:

  • Relevant practical experience within a customer focused or technical environment.
  • Fully computer literate with a thorough knowledge of key MS Office applications.
  • Able to demonstrate a working knowledge of current and emerging AV/IT technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • A strong commitment to teamwork and customer service.
  • A flexible approach and a willingness to provide help and assistance, when required in support of service delivery.
