IT Migration Engineer (Fixed Term) (Secondment or external applicants welcome)

The Clinical School Computing Service (CSCS) is looking for an articulate, self-motivated and proactive IT Migration Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure Team. The successful candidate will be joining a team of 10 staff who design, implement and maintain enterprise grade IT systems (i.e. servers, storage and network) which underpin the services used by medical research scientists on the University's biomedical campus. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in transitioning the IT technology involved in cutting-edge brain imaging systems that use a combination of novel scanning hardware and advanced computing to new platforms.

Following training and handover from the current providers, the IT Migration Engineer will play a crucial role supporting and then migrating in- house IT systems at the Wolfson Brain Imaging Centre (WBIC) to centralised services provided by the University Information Services (the UIS) such as its Secure Research Platform and the University Managed Desktop as well as campus-level support services run by CSCS. The WBIC migration is a joint project between CSCS and UIS and the IT Migration Engineer will work closely with both as a key player in the project.

Along with an advanced level of practical experience in IT (AD/Entra/Virtualisation/Storage/Networking backend), we are looking for someone who is able to work as a part of a team to develop migration plans as well as work independently carrying out those plans, identifying risks and mitigations and communicating with user base to schedule and implement changes so they are of the least impact. This will require strong planning skills, ability to build relationships, interpersonal and communication skills. The critical nature of the role to migrate this important brain research and health care facility would ideally be filled by a candidate with prior experience supporting scientific instruments or lab equipment in a research or clinical environment.

CSCS provides excellent opportunities for career development, 41 days annual leave (including public holidays), a generous pension scheme and a wide range of competitive benefits and services. Our staff also have access to internal University training, several online learning platforms as well as an allowance for external training courses.

The closing date for applications is Tuesday, 12th August 2025.

Fixed term: the funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance, with further migration projects anticipated within the Clinical School that this role could transfer to.

Informal enquiries about the post may be directed to Philippa Hewett at cscs.recruitment@medsch.cam.ac.uk

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check and a health assessment.
