Things to see and do

Cambridge is a small but vibrant city which is packed with things to see and do. It is particularly well-known for its architecture and heritage; you might like to start exploring its many interesting sites by taking a tour around the Colleges or by visiting one of the many museums.

If you're more interested in a having a little retail therapy, you can find a wide-range of high street shops on St Andrews Street and within the Grand Arcade, Lion Yard and the Grafton shopping centres. More independent alternatives can be found at the historic market and within the passageways leading from Rose Crescent and Trinity Street.

You'll find a number of great places to eat and drink in and around the city centre; you might find Bridge Street, Regent Street and Trumpington Street are good places to start. Alternatively, you might like to have a bite to eat at Cambridge Leisure Park, where you will also find a cinema, bowling alley, a nightclub and various live performances. If you've still got an appetite for entertainment, you'll find music and comedy events at the Cambridge Corn Exchange and theatre productions at the Cambridge Arts Theatre and the ADC Theatre.

Cambridge also hosts a number of exciting annual events such as the world-renowned independent film festival at the Arts Picturehouse, the famous Folk Festival and various community programmes organised by the University, including the Festival of Ideas and Cambridge Science Festival.

For those looking for more peaceful attractions, the city features many attractive parks and green spaces where you might like to take a picnic or relax by the River Cam. You can also discover plants from all over the world in the beautiful surroundings of the Botanic Garden.

As well as having much to offer in itself, Cambridge benefits from being a short distance from the stunning landscape of the Cambridgeshire Fens and a host of other attractions such as Ely Cathedral, Oliver Cromwell's house, Newmarket Races and various wildlife parks and stately homes. Cambridge is also within easy reach of the beautiful broads and coastlines of Norfolk and Suffolk. If you prefer a faster pace of life, London is only a fifty-minute train ride away.
