Research Assistant (Fixed Term)
Full Time 37 hours per week, Fixed Term to 30th September 2026
We wish to appoint a Research Assistant to design and develop novel stem cell lines through genome engineering strategies, and to grow and maintain laboratory neurodevelopmental models from stem cell lines. The aim of the research is to understand developmental sex differences of the brain, specifically towards revealing the neuroimmune contributions in brain development.
The appointee will work with a team of neuroscientists and stem cell biologists.
The neuroscience team conducts research into understanding sex differences in autism, while the stem cell biologists conduct research into understanding how stem cells differentiate into brain and blood cells.
This research project is led by autism neuroscientist Dr Deep Adhya at the Autism Research Centre, and stem cell biologist Professor Cedric Ghevaert at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, haematologist and stem cell expert.
The appointee will have a unique opportunity to develop skills essential to undertake neuroscience research using a stem cell approach. The appointee will be expected to lead the design and development of genome engineered stem cell lines.
The role will be hybrid with lab and office work based at the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute, Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop genome engineered stem cell lines.
- Develop protocols for efficient genome engineering in stem cells.
- Undertake experimental validation of genome engineered stem cells.
- Grow and maintain laboratory stem cell models, such as stem cell derived neurons and brain organoids, microglia and megakaryocytes.
- Undertake and assist with molecular biology and imaging experiments associated with the project.
- Lead and/or assist in writing of research manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals/presentation at conferences.
