Within the Faculty of Education, our Primary PGCE programme recruits around 80 students per year and aims to equip them with world-class teaching tools for early primary or primary aged children.

We are now looking for a Teaching Associate to join us on a full-time, permanent basis. We are also open to applicants who would like to apply to the position on a part time basis.

The Role

As a Teaching Associate, you will deliver high-quality teacher education within the Early Primary PGCE programme, contributing to its development, teaching, and overall student experience.

Specifically, you will take the lead in the Early Primary Route, as well as getting involved in aspects of admission, assessment and examination.

Leading several key components of the course, you will focus on the design, delivery, and assessment of lectures, seminars, workshops, and school-based tasks.

You will provide academic and pastoral support to students across all course elements, while also contributing to training sessions by offering guidance to mentors in early years settings.

Additionally, you will:

  • Lead cross-course provision for First Appointments
  • Oversee the admissions process for Early and General Primary PGCE programmes
  • Chair Section II Examiners, leading the assessment of school-based work
  • Support colleagues, students, and partners in Ofsted preparation

About You

  • Substantial teaching experience in UK state schools and expert, up-to-date knowledge of the early years and primary curriculum
  • Experience in initial teacher education, including tutoring and mentoring student or early career teachers
  • A proven track record in strategic leadership, policy development, and educational innovation
  • Up-to-date knowledge of initial teacher education (ITE) policy and relevant research
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A Bachelor's degree, Qualified Teacher Status, and a Master's degree in a relevant subject (or equivalent research experience)
