Finance Assistant (Part Time)


The MRC Epidemiology Unit, a department within the Clinical School, University of Cambridge, studies the genetic and environmental determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes and related metabolic disorders.

We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic person to join our friendly Business Team as Finance Assistant, as a job share for eight hours per week spread across Thursdays and Fridays, now that the current post holder wishes to reduce their hours. Reporting to the Business and Finance Manager with close working links to the Finance Officers, the role holder will provide an efficient finance administration service to the MRC Epidemiology Unit. Primarily working on accounts payable invoices, the post holder will ensure we have been charged correctly by suppliers, and get invoices authorised for payment before sending to the Shared Services team for processing. Further responsibilities include statement reconciliation, resolving invoice and payment queries and managing the finance email inbox.

You will have proven communication skills both oral and written and the ability to multi-task whilst maintaining a high degree of accuracy. You will be highly organised and proficient in using the internet and MS Outlook, Word and Excel. An accounting qualification will be an advantage.

This role is part of a job-share with one other member of the team, additional hours may be available to cover shifts for their job-share partner during periods of absence.
