Research Assistant (Fixed Term)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Research Assistant to join our laboratory in the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) to study the genetic basis of pulmonary vascular disease using mouse and cell models. Applicants must have laboratory experience and a degree in biological science. Prior animal experience would be advantageous, though training will be provided. There is the potential to pursue a research degree (MPhil) during this project.

Mutations in GCN2 cause a rare but progressive and ultimately fatal form of pulmonary hypertension called pulmonary veno-occlusive disease. There is currently no licenced drug treatment for this. We are seeking to understand how loss of GCN2 causes pulmonary vascular disease and have developed 2 mouse models in the first instance to dissect out mechanisms of disease.

The Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and it is a collaborative institute at the interface between fundamental research and the clinic, with a mission to determine the molecular mechanisms of disease in order to advance human health.
