Licence Manager


University Biomedical Services (UBS) are looking for a new Licence Manager to join its central support team to assist with the delivery of licensing systems and processes for UBS managed biomedical facilities.

Working alongside the UBS Directorate, Biofacility Management and the Home Office you will ensure that University licensing processes and procedures remain compliant with legislative and Home Office requirements, and maintain the University Establishment Licence. You will deliver an effective and efficient personal and project licence application and amendment process, supporting current and prospective licence holders through support, training and review (of new, amendments and non-regulated procedure applications) to deliver high quality applications to the Home Office. You will also support the Animal Welfare Ethical Review Body (AWERB) process as secretariat for AWERB and other associated meetings.

You will act as Named Training and Competency Officer (NTCO) to ensure necessary systems are in place such that all individuals applying for personal or project licences, or licence amendments are aware of the training required, and their responsibilities for working under their licences. This will include ensuring that competence records are up to date and all necessary authorities are in place before work commences. You will also support the UBS Training Centre with development and delivery of licence training.

This role will be suited to an individual who is highly organised with considerable knowledge and experience of biomedical research administration, techniques and equipment including; comprehensive up to date knowledge of Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and other relevant legislation, experience and understanding of training and requirements for licensees, and experience training or delivering presentations.

You will be educated to degree level (or equivalent experience), with Institute of Animal Technology membership. You will be an excellent communicator, able to communicate confidently with staff at all levels, using both written and oral communication methods to prepare and deliver reports, papers for committees and minute taking. The ability to negotiate effectively with tact and diplomacy are also important. You will have excellent people and time management skills, able to manage your own workload and those of your team effectively, working to tight deadlines. Knowledge of University licencing processes, including the species used and types of work conducted within the University would be an advantage.

The role is available in July and is subject to a 9 month probationary period.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
