Finance Administrator (Part Time)


The Department of Pathology is seeking a highly motivated and professional individual to undertake financial duties, providing proactive support to academic and research staff.
We are a department that truly values teamwork and has strong and inclusive programme of wellbeing.

Candidates will ideally be educated to AAT level four (or equivalent level of practical experience). You will be highly numerate, analytical and proficient in standard software packages, particularly Excel. You will be well-organised and able to prioritise effectively and work to tight deadlines. The role requires a good understanding of finance and strong problem solving skills. Excellent communication skills are also essential, including the ability to explain financial regulations and procedures effectively to non-finance staff. You will need to have strong interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively as a member of a team and to build positive working relationships with a wide variety of colleagues. Previous experience of working in an accounts environment within a University would be an advantage.

Working closely with the Department's Finance Coordinator this role has a wide range of responsibilities, including:

  • Acting as a Departmental key contact working proactively with academics, researchers, and departmental budget holders as well as other University departments and external suppliers/customers to resolve queries

  • Carry out the Department's month end and year end procedures

  • Ensuring accuracy of financial information on University financial system (CUFS), identifying and resolving any problems

  • Working with the Shared Financial Services team to ensure that accounts payable and receivable transactions are accurate and timely

  • Carry out accounts administration relating to the general ledger and research grants

  • Carry out financial management and reporting activities as required

It is vital that you possess excellent inter-personal skills to be able to work well with the team and manage good working relationships with a wide variety of people from all over the world, in order to gain an understanding of the needs of academics and research staff and deliver a responsive financial service to them.

You will be involved in contributing to continuous improvements in the Department's financial administration through close cooperation with the central Finance team. The Department is committed to supporting training and development opportunities for colleagues.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
