Job Opportunities

Senior Research Associate (Fixed Term)

We are seeking applications for a Senior Research Associate post to work within the Causal Mechanisms research theme of the MRC Biostatistics Unit (BSU). The theme brings together over 20 researchers with a shared interest in developing and applying statistical methods that exploit emerging data resources to determine the molecular causes of disease and hence improve human health.

You will work with other members of the theme on statistical/computational methods to answer substantive biological and clinical questions by integrating data from large studies with rich genetic and health related data such as UK Biobank with lab scale molecular studies, particularly those based on perturbing cellular models via gene editing.. Much of our work is based on Bayesian modelling but we also use frequentist approaches, and additionally have a strong interest in AI/ML approaches to these questions. You will be expected to show substantial independence, to input into research strategy and to assist or lead the development of new projects and funding applications.

The MRC Biostatistics Unit is one of Europe's leading biostatistics research institutions. Our focus is to deliver new analytical and computational strategies based on sound statistical principles for the challenging tasks facing biomedicine and public health. The Unit is situated on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, one of the world's most vibrant centres of biomedical research, which includes the University of Cambridge's Clinical School, two major hospitals, the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, and the world headquarters of Astra Zeneca.

The Unit is actively seeking to increase diversity among its staff, including promoting an equitable representation of men and women. The Unit therefore especially encourages applications from women, from minority ethnic groups and from those with non-standard career paths. Appointment will be made on merit.

We welcome applications from those wishing to work part-time.

The appointment will be at Senior Research Associate (Grade 9) and is subject to approval by the Faculty Board of Clinical Medicine.
