Research Associate (Gottgens Lab) (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited for the position of Research Associate to join the group of Professor Bertie Gottgens within The Wellcome Trust ¿ Medical Research Council Cambridge Stem Cell Institute and Department of Haematology on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The successful candidates will join a collaborative research team, with the aim to identify the molecular changes that give rise to altered leukaemogenic differentiation landscapes in preleukaemic mouse models. This project will take advantage of state-of-the-art single-cell molecular techniques, genetic perturbations and computational analysis to identify and validate previously unrecognized genes/pathways driving aberrant cell fate decisions in pre-leukemic cells. Experiments will include single cell RNA-seq analysis, perturbation of transcription factors using CRISPR-Cas9, testing of therapeutic compounds, mammalian cell culture and in vitro differentiation assays.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD, or an equivalent research doctorate in a relevant subject. Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once PhD has been awarded.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the design and planning of experiments. They will be required to perform laboratory-based research and engage effectively with bioinformatic and other project collaborators. The ability to learn quickly and to work both independently and as part of a team is essential. The post-holder will become a valued member of the Gottgens Group and will work alongside students and researchers (both wet and dry). Prior experience of haematopoiesis and leukaemia research, single-cell technologies (such as but not limited to scRNA-Seq), CRISPR editing, viral production, mammalian cell culture (including in vitro differentiation assays), facs analysis, therapeutic compound testing and bioinformatic analysis skills are essential; however, we will consider all the skills and strengths that you have.
