The Department of Computer Science and Technology is an academic department that encompasses computer science along with many aspects of engineering, technology and mathematics. We have a world-wide reputation for academic research with consistently high research ratings, with around 340 academic staff, research associates, and PhD students actively engaged in research projects within the department. Key to our continued success is our ability to attract talented staff and provide them with a stimulating environment that promotes a strong sense of community whilst valuing and recognising individual contribution.
We are seeking an Administrator to work closely with the Head of Department's Executive Assistant who will work as part of the reception team providing a general administrative service to the department. The administration / reception team are the first point of contact for staff, students and visitors and are of central importance to the welcoming, inclusive culture that the Department of Computer Science and Technology strives for. This is a full-time role encompassing a wide range of responsibilities across several operational functions; from administrative tasks, such as overseeing venue, catering and travel bookings, corresponding with and preparing information for visitors and newcomers, to maintaining records and updating information sources and staff databases.
A key responsibility of the role will be to manage the Reception Team shared email box and ensure an effective workflow, and liaise with team members to ensure best practice at all times. You will also contribute to the planning and co-ordination of duties in the Reception front of house area.
With experience of administration, ideally in an educational setting, you will have the ability to use your own initiative to identify and resolve problems before and when they arise and be able to prioritise a diverse and changing workload. You will also have excellent organisational skills, good time management and demonstrate an interest in how the department and wider university works in order to provide an effective administrative service
The post is full time, working 36.5 hours per week. This is a fixed term contract for 2 years.
