RDC Research Laboratory Manager
In 2024, the Department will be moving to a new state-of-the-art building; the Ray Dolby Centre (RDC). Working closely with the Head of Scientific Laboratory Services, the roleholder will play a vital role in setting up the new laboratories and working on several projects. You will be the conduit and key contact within the laboratories for academics, students, researchers and visitors to the Department.
The main duties of the role include establishing written procedures and protocols for the laboratories and technical team, ensuring compliance with local and legal safety requirements, overseeing maintenance schedules and ensuring that the laboratories are working to the level expected, managing budgets and providing overall leadership and direction for the lab technicians in their area. The roleholder will also play a crucial part in the Department's apprentice scheme, overseeing a number of apprentices, ensuring that they are learning new skills and developing their portfolios.
The roleholder must be able to clearly demonstrate a proven history of managing a technical team, as well as being responsible for a research facility. The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator and provide clear leadership for their team and others.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
