Head of Research Data & Technology, NIHR BioResource for Translational Research

We are recruiting a Head of Research Data & Technology who will ensure the development, execution and leadership of the Research Data and Technology strategy that is transformational in its ambition and underpins the delivery of the overall NIHR BioResource mandate.

To succeed in this role, you will need to have senior management experience in a relevant field, in a complex environment with a diverse range of technical and generalist stakeholders, as well as the ability to manage and develop large, professional teams.

About the job:

The Head of Research Data & Technology is fundamental to the continuing success of the NIHR BioResource. As part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) the role is actively involved in overall strategy and planning, along with providing expert advice to the SMT, Oversight Committees and the Director of the NIHR BioResource. The role holder has overall responsibility for 5 teams, consisting of circa 40 people: Bioinformatics, Data, Data Science, Information Security and IT Infrastructure & Systems.

About you:

Ideally you will have:

  • An honours degree in computer science, similar numerate discipline or Omics, or equivalent extensive experience in working with clinical or Omics data at national or international level

  • Senior management experience in a relevant field in a complex environment with a diverse range of technical and generalist stakeholders, as well as experience of managing large professional teams

  • Experience in the management of major projects with an organisation wide impact and complex development and implementation plans

  • A demonstrable track record of introducing change and innovative ways of working, and ability to identify relevant new opportunities and to work with others to develop and implement resulting projects

This appointment is full-time, 37 hours per week; part-time to 80% will be considered. A market supplement may be applied for the ideal candidate. Work-life balance is important, and we are open to discussion on flexible working, including hybrid working.

The post is available on a fixed-term basis until 30 November 2027 in the first instance. NIHR BioResource is funded by the National Institute for Health & Care Research (NIHR) on a 5-year funding cycle. Our offices are on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus CB2 0QQ (approximately 2 miles south of the city centre).

This appointment requires a Research Passport application.
