Project Coordinator (Fixed Term)
The MRC Epidemiology Unit is seeking to appoint a Research Coordinator.
The MRC Epidemiology Unit is a department within the School of Clinical Medicine and investigates the aetiology and prevention of non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
The post forms part of the NIHR-funded Global Diet and Activity Research (GDAR) Group and Network. GDAR addresses the rising NCD burden in low- and middle-income countries with a focus on food & built environment determinants of diet and physical activity (PA).
We are seeking to appoint a full time (but also we are open to either full time of 80% FTE) Research Coordinator for the GDARSpaces project. GDARSpaces aims to better understand urbanisation and climate-change (syndemic)-related NCD hazards, through a programme of thematically related studies. The project will inform the design of resilient food & built environment interventions that support healthy eating and active living in LMIC cities. The role of the Research Coordinator will be critical in supporting the day-to-day operational management of the project in close partnership with local counterparts at collaborating institutions in Africa, South Asia, South America and the Caribbean.
The post-holder will report to the GDAR Programme Lead, and work extremely closely with the GDAR Research Coordinator. The Research Coordinator will take responsibility for the day-to-day running of the project. This will include the organisation of Project Hub activities, involving study coordinators and data managers located in several partner countries in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean and Asia; contribution to the design of study protocols and SOPs; liaising with and coordinating global sites to prepare ethics applications; evaluating and designing data collection tools; monitoring adherence to the data management plan; contributing to the development of project policies and strategies for communication and dissemination; and monitoring day to day project progress against protocols and timelines. The post-holder will act as Community Engagement & Involvement (CEI) Lead and will co-produce a CEI strategy with global study coordinators, to facilitate community involvement through a structured programme that identifies and engages community stakeholders at each stage of the research process.
The successful candidate will be ideally educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant field with experience working in low- or middle-income contexts and in project management and coordination. Applicants will be highly competent in MS Office software packages and have good knowledge of research governance principles and practices. The role will be based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus site.
