Research Associate (Fixed Term)
Applications are invited for a Research Associate to work in the group of Dr. Milka Sarris (http://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/staff/sarris/index.shtml) in the Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience at the University of Cambridge, from 1 September 2023 or by negotiation.
The Sarris lab studies the dynamics of leukocyte migration and signaling during immune responses in zebrafish. We exploit the transparency of zebrafish larvae to perform high detail imaging of leukocytes and their interactions with microbes in a living animal. You would be joining an inclusive and welcoming group and department, committed to mentoring and supporting the career development of all members. Current interests in the lab include the study of how neutrophils aggregate at sites of damage or infection in vivo and how their accumulation in these tissues is resolved (Poplimont et al. 2020, Coombs et al. 2019, Georgantzoglou et al. 2022). This post will be funded by a project entitled: 'The uncharted journeys of inflammatory cells and their functional implications', which aims to understand the long-term fates and migration trajectories of such innate immune cells after inflammatory challenge.
Candidates should have a PhD in Cell Biology, Immunology or a related field. The role holder will have substantial experience in molecular (e.g. cloning, gene expression profiling) and cell biology (e.g. tissue culture, gene expression) techniques. The ideal candidate will also have experience with animal experimental models and live cell microscopy. Experience with zebrafish manipulation or image analysis or microbiology would be advantageous. You should be a self-motivated researcher with a strong interest in the dynamics of living cells in a tissue context and/or in the cell biology of innate immune responses.
For informal enquiries about this vacancy, please email Dr. Sarris: ms543@cam.ac.uk.
