Infrastructure Migration Manager (Fixed Term) Internal Secondment Opportunity

The IT Infrastructure Defragmentation Programme is a business-critical IT transformation programme driven by the UIS. It is a response to several risks on the University Risk Register and has received substantial capital investment.

We are working with several departments across the University to improve and take on management and support of core IT services. We are currently focusing on the network; this comprises of the passive network (structured cabling, data cabinets, etc), wired network, wireless network, network security, and IT support. The scale of the programme is likely to grow, as is the scope.

We are looking for an IT Infrastructure Migration Manager to support delivery of the programme, working with the Programme Manager. The Infrastructure Migration Manager will be expected to take ownership of the delivery of several IT migration projects, from start to finish.

The successful candidate will have a recent background in delivering IT infrastructure projects. This is essential as the role holder will need to be able to work closely with business and IT colleagues in departments to understand their needs, bringing in specialists from UIS as required.

You will be expected to develop project plans, working with the team and stakeholders, track progress on tasks and spend, and provide reporting.

Some project management experience is needed; however, formal project management training will also be offered.

We are still establishing processes and tools for how best to carry out migration projects effectively. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this evolution and be willing to try different approaches, learning along the way.

The role is offered as a 12-month secondment in the first instance.

The post is offered to internal candidates only on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
