Applications are invited for a Research Associate to contribute to research investigating the development of diet and related health behaviours across the life transitions of early adulthood. This will be a 2-year position, to start June 2023, based in the Behavioural Epidemiology and Interventions in Young People Programme at the MRC Epidemiology Unit. The successful candidate will conduct analysis of new data (from the DEBEAT study) and existing longitudinal cohorts, to address research questions concerning the changing exposures which influence development of diet and related health behaviours through early adulthood.
The DEBEAT study is currently at pilot stage, and will recruit a cohort of 1,500 adolescents in their final year of school, starting September 2023. The adolescents will be followed up the following year to study changes in their diet and related health behaviours. The study collects detailed data on changing social environments, home, institutional and neighbourhood food environments and time/financial pressures as young people transition from school-level education to higher/further education or employment. You will work closely with the project lead, Dr Eleanor Winpenny, leading analysis, publication and presentation of findings, and con-tributing to ongoing data collection. In addition, there will be the opportunity to develop research ideas and analyses in other national and international longitudinal cohorts.
Applicants should have a PhD in a relevant discipline (or due to submit within 3 months of application). You will have a strong interest in understanding the determinants of changing diet and related health behaviours through early adulthood. This position would suit somebody with an enthusiasm and aptitude for advanced quantitative analysis.
For informal discussions you are very welcome to contact Dr Eleanor Winpenny by email: Eleanor.Winpenny@mrc-epid.cam.ac.uk
