Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Associate Teaching Professor who will act as the Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence (MLMI) MPhil Course Director and will be based at the Department of Engineering's Central Cambridge site.
Machine learning and machine intelligence are vibrant interdisciplinary fields that comprise the mathematical and computational foundations of systems that learn, reason and act, as well as the practical application of these systems. There has recently been a surge of interest in this area in industry and academia. The MPhil in Machine Learning and Machine Intelligence (MLMI) is an elite eleven-month programme offered by the Machine Learning Group, the Speech Group, and the Computer Vision and Robotics Group in the Cambridge University Department of Engineering. The course aims to teach the state-of-the-art in machine learning, speech and language processing, human-computer interaction, computer vision and robotics; to give students the skills and expertise necessary to take leading roles in industry and to equip them with the research skills necessary for doctoral study at Cambridge and other universities.
We are seeking an individual to take overall responsibility for the course, which will include all aspects of the planning, development, management, delivery and admissions of the course. In addition, you will directly contribute some teaching, by delivering course content, and running some research projects. In consultation with teaching staff, you will shape the long-term vision for the course and take a leadership role in achieving this vision. You will also have line management responsibility for the Course Administrator.
There will be opportunities for establishing research collaborations with groups in the Department and for publishing, although there will be no obligation to do so.
Educated to PhD level, or with related equivalent experience, in topics related to machine learning and machine intelligence, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong technical knowledge across this range of topics. You will have a proven track record in relationship management with experience of teaching delivery and/or the design of teaching materials. You will also be able to demonstrate presentation skills for spoken and written communication and possess the necessary attributes to represent the MPhil programme to students, the wider University and externally. Experience in machine learning and artificial intelligence-related research would be advantageous.
