A position exists, for a Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on Probabilistic Machine Learning. The post holder will be located in Central and West Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.
We seek to appoint an independent researcher to develop and drive a research program in the theory of deep learning, robust machine learning, probabilistic deep learning or adjacent areas. This position will contribute to the research programme "Advancing Modern Data-Driven Robust AI", which is funded by UKRI through a Turing AI World-Leading Fellowship lead by co-investigators Professor Zoubin Ghahramani and Dr Ferenc Huszár.
The programme's goal is to understand and improve modern machine learning methods primarily by casting them in a probabilistic, information theoretic, causal inference framework. More specifically, the programme is focussed on four areas: (1) Robustness; (2) Integrating symbolic and statistical frameworks; (3) Scalable probabilistic inference methods and (4) A Theory of Generalisation and Transfer Learning. For this position, preference will be to select applicants whose expertise is in probabilistic and statistical methods.
This RA/SRA will work primarily with Professor Zoubin Ghahramani (Engineering Department) and Dr Ferenc Huszár (Computer Laboratory) as well as other members of the Machine Learning Groups at these two departments.
The core responsibilities include planning and conducting research in alignment with one or multiple components of the research program, ideally focussing on robustness and scalable probabilistic inference. Additional responsibilities include developing research objectives and proposals; presentations and publications; assisting with the supervision of research students; liaising and networking with colleagues and students; planning and organising research resources and workshops.
Applicants must have been awarded their PhD or possess equivalent research experience in computer science/mathematics/engineering or related area. For the skills and experience required for this role, please see the 'HR7_Further Particulars' (link below).
Appointment at the level of Senior Research Associate/Grade 9 is dependant on the applicant having additional years of significant postdoctoral experience in a relevant area of research or equivalent industrial experience, with proven impact from authored publications.
