The Department of History and Philosophy of Science is seeking an experienced and proactive Administrator to provide support for the Departmental Administrator and act as HR Co-ordinator while the current role holder is on maternity leave.
This role provides support to the Departmental Administrator in such varied areas as finance work and building maintenance, as well as line managing the General Assistant/ Receptionist and Cleaner. The Deputy also manages the reception area, which provides a service to the Department's Whipple Museum and Library as well as visitors to the Department.
The role holder also plays an essential role in coordinating recruitment and appointments as well as taking the lead in several areas of HR administration, including staff review, holiday and sickness records, induction of new staff and visitors, monitoring probation periods and appointment end-dates and maintaining personnel files.
The successful applicant will be educated to 'A' level standard or equivalent with GCSE English and Mathematics (or equivalent). Proficient in the use of IT, applicants will be able to demonstrate their competency with spreadsheets, databases, and webpage and email packages. Excellent organisational and communication skills are also required together with the ability to work autonomously and as a part of a team.
