CSC Horticultural Technician (Fixed Term)


Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.

Applications are invited for a Horticultural Technician to work in the brand new Crop Science Centre, part of the Department of Plant Sciences and located on the NIAB site, off Huntingdon Road. The Crop Science Centre, which opened in October 2020, benefits from the diverse skills and expertise of the University of Cambridge and NIAB, providing an environment for research excellence in crops with the capability to apply discoveries to crop improvement in the field. More than 50 staff and students are located at the Centre.

The successful candidate will be joining a vibrant and friendly research support team and will report to Dr Susana Sauret Gueto, Labs and Research Facilities Manager. The role holder will be responsible for running the Horticultural Facility at CSC, which consist of 6 control environment rooms and 6 reach-in chambers. The main plant species grown at CSC are barley, wheat, rice, maize, tomato, potato and Arabidopsis. The post holder will grow and maintain plants, be responsible for the plant growth areas and support the horticultural work of various research programmes undertaken by groups in the Crop Science Centre Building. The post holder will be part of a team to assist with maintaining general order and safety at CSC, with a key role in biological safety related to plant material.

Applicants should have experience of plant care in a scientific environment, biological pest control and working in a scientific laboratory.
