University Assistant/Associate Professorship in Developmental Physiology

Applications are invited for an Assistant/Associate Professorship (University Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) to be held in the Department of Physiology Development and Neuroscience at the interface of organ development and physiology. We are searching for a talented individual with a track record in research and commitment to teaching. The post is available from 1st October 2022 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The Department offers a world class research and teaching environment with considerable strengths in Physiology and Developmental Biology, with an emphasis on exploring structure-function relationships at different levels of organisation, from tissues and organs to the organismal ( We particularly welcome applications from individuals with a research focus that is aimed at understanding the transition from development to function during organogenesis, using whole animal, in vivo approaches or deploying approaches in multicellular in vitro systems. For example, utilizing physiological and cell biological technologies to address how tissues and organs acquire functionality; bridging physical and biological approaches to further our understanding of living systems; harnessing multicellular in vitro organoid systems to model tissue or organ development.

Shortlisted applicants will have a PhD in a relevant subject area and show evidence of leading a successful research programme. Applicants will also have an aptitude and enthusiasm for teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and will be expected to contribute to teaching and other academic activities in the Department, and more widely in the School of Biological Sciences, including the design and delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate lecture courses, examinations and other forms of assessment.

The starting salary is dependent on the level of appointment being made, as determined by the Selection Committee. Assistant Professorships will start in the range of £42,149 - £53,348 per annum; Associate Professorships will start in the range of £56,587 - £60,022 per annum
