Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
Applications are invited for a Research Assistant/Research Associate position to work on the exciting new project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council via the DIGIT (Digital Futures at Work Research Centre) project which is headed up by the Universities of Leeds and Sussex https://digit-research.org/ . The post is primarily situated within the discipline of Sociology, but also drawing upon psychological and interdisciplinary literatures. The Principal Investigator is Brendan Burchell, Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge. The overall aim is to investigate how the pandemic and flexible furlough might have encouraged employers and employees to adopt new norms of reduced hours work that might be sustained post-pandemic.
The postholder will primarily work to study organisations that have adopted reduced working hours (such as a six-hour day, four-day week or longer annual holidays) in the pandemic and are considering keeping those arrangements post-pandemic.
Applications from candidates with backgrounds in sociology and related disciplines, with relevant experience of research using qualitative research methods in the social sciences. Competence with quantitative research methods would also be an advantage, are invited.
Candidates for the post of Research Associate should normally have a PhD (submitted or nearly submitted at the time of application) in a relevant field and with experience of the methods required for this project. They should provide evidence of potential for research and publication at the highest level, and a good understanding of the policy process.
Candidates for the post of Research Assistant should have a Master's degree, including strong quantitative skills, and provide evidence of interest in policy engagement.
The salary for the Research Associate starts at £32,816 to £40,342 per annum, if you have not yet received your PhD you will be appointed as a Research Assistant and the salary will be starting at £26,715 to £30,942 per annum until the PhD is awarded.
