Research Assistant/Associate: Biomarkers of materno-fetal health (Fixed Term)

Applications are invited from an enthusiastic and highly motivated researcher at either Research Assistant or Research Associate level. The work is funded by a Medical Research Council grant held Dr Amanda Sferruzzi-Perri. The main focus of the Sferruzzi-Perri lab is to understand the aetiology of pregnancy complications and the regulation of developmental processes in a wider context (https://www.pdn.cam.ac.uk/directory/amanda-sferruzzi-perri). The lab combines unique gene targeting strategies and established environmental models with cutting edge molecular, cellular and physiological approaches in the mouse. You will work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team that is investigating specifically the role of placental endocrine function in promoting changes in maternal metabolism and insulin resistance in obese pregnancies and its importance for the health of the offspring in later life.

The successful candidate should have a first degree or a PhD (PhD required for appointment at Research Associate level) in a relevant field, have a background in placental physiology and/or metabolic regulation and have a good track record of research achievements. You will have experience of performing in vivo experiments with rodents and handling large datasets. Experience in conducting mitochondrial respirometry, fluorescence activated cell sorting, cell culture, gene targeting methods and/or RNA-seq (and/or other high-throughput technologies) is desirable. Animal husbandry experience and a Home Office Personal Licence would be a distinct advantage.

Applications should include a personal statement highlighting suitability to the post, detailed CV and the names and addresses of two academic referees. The position is available from July 2021.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 30 April 2022 in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment and a security check.
