The Pharmacology & Drug Development Group (PDDG), based in the prestigious Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Cambridge Institute, investigates novel therapeutic strategies for cancer, with particular focus on pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC).
This multidisciplinary group facilitates the preclinical and clinical development of novel anti-cancer drugs, i.e. truly 'bench to bedside' translational research, led by Duncan Jodrell, Professor of Cancer Therapeutics. Areas of interest for the research group are combination approaches relating to the DNA damage response (to both cytotoxic agents and radiation) and overcoming stroma-induced resistance to both cytotoxic agents and emerging immunotherapeutic agents for the treatment of patients with PDAC.
The CRUK Cambridge Institute (www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/) is part of the University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine and is situated on the Addenbrooke's Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. The Institute provides a highly collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment in cancer research, with state of the art facilities and core scientific resources, and good links with the scientific community of Cambridge. This is a senior position that requires a large amount of initiative, attention to detail and a mature approach to dealing with colleagues. The selected candidate is expected to have a PhD in a relevant subject (or the equivalent level of skill and knowledge) plus relevant research experience. They must have a wide range of hands-on experience of working with relevant mouse models of cancer and knowledge of cancer biology and pharmacology.
Potential candidates must display an ability to undertake project management, work within a multi-disciplinary team environment, demonstrate excellent presentation and communication skills and be able to train other team members.
The successful candidate will be able to assess, interpret and evaluate outcomes of research and translate knowledge of advances in the subject areas into research activity. They will work closely with the Group Leader to facilitate the PDDG's research.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
