The NIHR BioResource for Translational Research seeks a Governance and Ethics Coordinator to assist with a wide range of tasks around ensuring that correct governance and ethics is adhered to in relation to the NIHR BioResource.
The NIHR BioResource for Translational Research provides the major nationally accessible resource of >100,000 volunteers from the general population, patients with common disease and rare diseases, all of whom are willing to participate in and support medical and experimental research. Recruits will have consented to be recalled according to their genotype and/or phenotype for academic and industry-led experimental medicine and clinical research studies.
The project aims to provide a unique and powerful resource for studying disease mechanisms and for characterising the benefits and limitations of emerging therapies, adding another 200,000 volunteers by the end of March 2022. This will lead towards future trials that incorporate disease mechanistic knowledge and studies and that are personalising therapies based on stratifying patients/individuals at risk of disease-by-disease-associated phenotypes.

The post-holder will assist in preparing information sheets and consent forms for studies, making amendments of REC- approved documents and submitting substantial and minor amendments and reports.
The role holder may open studies at new NHS Trusts, or add different research projects and/or researchers to Trusts that are already running the study. The role holder will provide advice to researchers wishing to submit applications to use the NIHR BioResource, and may prepare template wording for their submissions.
This post-holder will assist in ensuring that all NIHR BioResource activities are undertaken in accordance with the EU and UK Statutory and Regulatory requirements and principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
Applicants should be educated to degree level or have equivalent qualifications, or have relevant experience relating to the post. Experience in writing and submitting NHS ethics applications and amendments for research studies along with knowledge of Information Governance, Good Clinical Practice and the General Data Protection Regulation is essential to this role. Excellent planning, organisational and attention to detail as well as interpersonal & communication skills with experience in an administrative role, document control and being an experienced user of Microsoft Office are a requirement for this role.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will require a standard Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and a Research Passport. The nature of this role means that the successful candidate will also need to undergo a health assessment.
The funds for these posts are available until 31st March 2022.
