A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the Innovate UK, Construction Innovation Hub, Centre of Digital Built Britain (CDBB) funded project facilitating the digitisation of off-site manufacturing as well as contributing to the broader aims of the project. The post holder will work with the Cambridge Service Alliance (CSA) at the Institute for Manufacturing and will be expected to collaborate with other researchers from the CSA, Land Economy Department and the CDBB at the University of Cambridge.
The post holder will explore the opportunities and constraints in developing new services and business models for the off-site manufacturing (OSM). The researcher will work closely with industry partners using different research methods to understand how to employ innovative digital techniques in off-site construction. In addition, the researcher will be expected to contribute broadly to the CDBB project activities as well to other research projects and activities within CSA.
Applicants must have (or be close to obtaining) a PhD in Service Management, Engineering, Manufacturing, Information Systems, or relevant discipline. Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience in industry). Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.
The researcher's expertise is expected to include expertise in servitization, digital business models, platforms, digitalisation of construction and commercial contracts. Appreciation and knowledge of the methods for quantitative and qualitative methods are essential. Experience in machine learning, natural language processing and programming will be advantageous.
The researcher will be expected to have very good communication and writing skills to submit papers in highly ranked service management journals and conferences. Please see the HR7 document for further information.
Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £26,243 - £30,395 Research Associate: £32,236 - £39,609
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available until 31 July 2022 in the first instance.
