Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
This position is for a post-doctoral Research Associate to work in Professor Judith Driscoll's research group - https://driscoll.msm.cam.ac.uk/ to undertake research in practical and reliable oxide thin film materials for non-volatile memory. The successful applicant will be expected to do experimental research in a team environment, working under the supervision of Prof Driscoll, alongside a junior lecturer, postdocs, and students.
Experience is required in the thin film materials and device physics field. The ideal candidate will have experience in more than one of the following areas: memory materials and in particular oxide memristors, oxide thin film growth, materials characterisation, thin film device fabrication, electrical device characterisation, device engineering.
Other responsibilities include: - Liaising with colleagues from different disciplines, both in the UK and abroad - Work with researchers in the Engineering Department on device fabrication and characterisation - Collaborate with colleagues from different disciplines outside the University, both in the UK and abroad - Co-ordinating activities with industry partners, as appropriate - Analysing and interpreting the results of own research and generating original ideas based on outcomes - Design and conduct a coherent set of experiments and record their outcome - Conducting literature and database searches - Writing up results of own research - Organising UK-wide meetings on non-volatile memory - Leading and contributing to the production of research reports and publications - Presenting information on research progress and outcomes to internal and external contacts. both academic and industrial
Experience Criteria Applicants should have a PhD and a strong background in applied physics/ materials science/ electrical engineering or closely related subject with experience in more than one of the following areas: memory materials, in particular oxide memristors, oxide thin film growth, thin film device fabrication, electrical device testing, materials characterisation, device engineering. Effective written communication skills and the ability to plan and organise independently are essential.
