The Scherman research group is based in the Department of Chemistry and is focused on supramolecular self-assembly in water. The group manager will be an integral member of the research team acting as coordinator for a large and exciting interdisciplinary research effort, which comprises of 25-30 post-doctoral researchers, graduate students, and visitors and help Professor Scherman coordinate its extensive research activities across a number of centres within the University.
S/he will develop and provide support mechanisms, which enable and promote collaboration with external organisations and foster new relationships with external research partners both in academia and industry. S/he will also have oversight of the medium to long-term research strategy within the group. In addition, the role holder will provide research, personnel and financial advice to Professor Scherman (including the development of appraisal and performance management). Duties will include contributing directly to the research activities of the group.
The successful candidate will be educated to PhD level in Chemistry or a field related to the research activities in the group and have experience in research coordination or group administration. Excellent communicational skills, the ability to relate well to a wide range of people and high degree of literacy with experience of independently writing clear and concise documents is essential. Furthermore, the ability to make independent decisions in a dynamic and fast-moving environment and take effective action is highly desirable.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
