Director of Small Animal Surgical Services

Applications are invited for the role of Director of Small Animal Surgical Services, to take up appointment as soon as possible and ideally by 1 January 2015. This is an exciting opportunity for the successful applicant to provide leadership and strategic direction in the area of small animal surgical services in the Queen's Veterinary School Hospital in order to ensure a well led and efficient surgical service, to participate in the clinical service and drive forward the growing surgical referral caseload of the Hospital, and to participate in clinical teaching.

You must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, or hold a veterinary degree qualifying you for membership; hold an RCVS and/or European and/or American College Diploma in small animal surgery, focused in orthopaedics.

You should have substantial practical experience in small animal surgery; documented clinical veterinary student teaching experience; experience in the training of postgraduate veterinary surgeons (interns and residents).

You should be able to demonstrate evidence of ability to lead a team and to lead by example; sensitivity to the differing needs and career directions of co-workers and students; excellent organisational skills and the ability to balance the demands on the time of members of the small animal clinical team; enthusiasm for the discipline, and good interpersonal and teaching skills in order to impart their skills and knowledge to others; excellent written and verbal communication skills; the ability to work under pressure; and evidence of academic endeavour (e.g. published papers).

A higher degree is desirable.
